Spiritual prompt (D&C 1:24)
This verse is basically saying God meets people where they are, He speaks in a way they can actually get. That's the same idea behind good writing. If I want people to understand what I'm saying, I have to think about who they are, not just what I want to say.

How does knowing your audience affect your writing?
Audience changes everything, tone, word choice, how much detail I give. Writing to a professor is different from texting a friend. If I ignore who I'm writing for, the message usually doesn't land right.

Why is professional writing important? What do you expect from this class?
Professional writing is how people judge you at work, in emails, reports, and everyday communication. Bad writing makes good ideas look weak. From this class, I'm hoping to get better at writing clearly for real situations, like emails, resumes, and workplace communication, since that's what the course seems built around based on the syllabus.

Student's choice #1
Writing changes a lot depending on where it shows up. A text to a friend and an email to a professor are basically two different languages, even if the message is similar. I think this class will help me switch between those more naturally.

Student's choice #2
Tone is easy to mess up in writing since there's no voice or face to soften things. I want to get better at sounding clear and direct without coming off harsh, especially in professional settings.
